Minted

Minted Notifications & Customizer

Minted is an online design marketplace that sources creative content from a global community of artists to then sell in the form of art, home decor, and stationery directly to consumers. As an early pioneer of crowdsourcing, Minted enables creatives to monetize their art by identifying the industries and products where their art is most interesting to consumers.

Role & Responsibilities:

  •  prototype and build out interactions for org’s main customization tool

  • design new site features such as split foil colors and colored envelopes

  • create wireframes, mockups, & prototypes to communicate design strategies to stakeholders.

  • construct space and hierarchy for artist/user notifications

Artist Notifications

Prior to this project, artists who partnered with Minted received all notifications (comments and/or feedback on art they’ve posted to the site) as individual emails. It was the general mindset that artists would respond quicker and more reliable to notifications within the site rather than offline, allowing for a more streamlined flow to submit artwork and further both artist’s and Minted’s revenue. My main challenges were to house a space on the site for these notifications to exist as well as establish a visual hierarchy amongst different types of notifications.

Iterations

Artist Notifications Redesign

For the final, I decided to house notifications in a side drawer that could be accessed a notifications icon as part of the top nav. Manual notifications (deadline extensions for challenges, Camp Minted announcements, etc.) were given a blue background treatment to stay uniform with other UX assets that represented an informational state. Challenge blocks were given a more significant visual treatment since art challenges are the linchpin to artists getting recognized on the site.

Split Foil

One of Minted’s most popular product types is foil-pressed cards, in which design elements/text can be constructed in colored foil rather than standard ink. With the intent of adding even more foil options to the site, the team needed a way to make foil selections independent of base color selections. My main challenge was to expedite flow time by separating out foil and base color selections while still visually referencing some limitations on foil-base color combinations.

Design Implementation

The work on this project was less focused on iterations and more on specific flows. Since not all foil colors would be available per base color, I needed to visualize that foil options would increase/decrease based on the base color chosen. To show that base color superseded foil color, any new base color selection would automatically change the foil color to their default combination which can be viewed in the interactions below.

Card Customizer

Probably the largest chunk of a user’s flow takes place on Minted’s card customizer, where a user can change color options, edit text, add accessories, and more. The original design of the customizer was fairly outdated, which represented a huge obstacle for conversion. Though the redesign began prior to my start at the company, my main challenge was to lead the effort in prototyping out the new designs and building out transitions/micro-interactions.
